Louisville man has extensive public management experience

FRANKFORT, Ky. (Feb. 14, 2008) – Environmental and Public Protection Cabinet Secretary Robert D. Vance today announced the appointment of Larry R. Bond, of Louisville, as commissioner of the Department of Public Protection (DPP).

Bond, 59, has served for the past year as chief deputy and chief operating officer for the Jefferson County Circuit Court Clerk’s Office. In that post, he oversaw a staff of more than 300 and managed $30 million in annual receipts.

Bond began his career in the city of Louisville’s public works department and has held senior management positions in Jefferson County Government and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

“I am delighted to have someone with Mr. Bond’s background in public management to serve in this important position,” Secretary Vance said. “I am confident he will bring dynamic leadership to the department.”

“I look forward to this exciting challenge,” Bond said. “I am eager to examine ways to make DPP a more responsive, efficient and cohesive agency.”

DPP is composed of 11 regulatory agencies, including the Public Service Commission, the Kentucky Horse Racing Authority, Alcoholic Beverage Control and the Office of Insurance.

Bond attended Kentucky Wesleyan University, Western Kentucky University and the University of Louisville. He is a decorated Vietnam War veteran, serving in the U.S. Army in 1968-70.
