Kentucky State Nature Preserves Commission to host hike at Floracliff SNP

FRANKFORT, Ky., (April 1, 2008) - You’re invited to join Kentucky State Nature Preserves Commission botanist Tara Littlefield for a guided nature hike through Floracliff State Nature Preserve in Fayette County at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 5.  The hike will focus on discovering several early spring wildflowers including trilliums, trout lilies, wild ginger and bloodroot.

Participants should come prepared for a two-hour hike over a moderately strenuous trail. Participants are encouraged to bring water to carry with them, as well as wear sturdy shoes or hiking boots.

Attendance is limited to 12 participants and preregistration is required. To sign up, contact Tara Littlefield at 502-573-2886 or by e-mail at tara.littlefield.ky.gov. There is no charge.

The hike is among activities surrounding Kentucky’s celebration of Earth Day, scheduled for Tuesday, April 22. 

Spearheaded by the Environmental and Public Protection Cabinet, a number of state agencies, local governments, businesses and organizations have joined together to celebrate Earth Day in the commonwealth.  Some partners have organized environmental activities throughout the month of April, while others are providing information and resources on protecting Kentucky’s environment.  Visit the state Earth Day Web site at www.earthday.ky.gov to learn more about Kentucky's Earth Day celebration.
