WICKLIFFE, Ky. (May 15, 2007) – Jacobs Industrial Services, whose employees have worked for more than 550,000 hours without a “lost-time” injury or illness, today was presented a 2007 Governor’s Safety and Health Award.
Corden Porter, deputy commissioner of the Kentucky Department of Labor, presented the award to company officials during a ceremony at MeadWestvaco Corp., which Jacobs services as a maintenance and small capital project provider.
The award is given to employers and employees who together have achieved a specified streak of hours worked without a recordable injury or illness.
“Improving workplace safety has been a fundamental goal of Governor Ernie Fletcher’s administration,” Porter said. “Creating a culture of a safe work environment and seeking the best methods of worker safety and health are important tasks. We are pleased that Jacobs Industrial Services shares the vision and understands the value of a safe and healthy work force.”
Jacobs Industrial Services is a broad-based consulting firm. In Wickliffe, the company maintains piping, tanks, vessels and pumps, and carries out small construction at MeadWestvaco. Its workforce of construction craftsmen includes pipefitters, boilermakers, millwrights and operating engineers.
Safety is “a way of life, both on and off the job,” said Mark Conway, the company’s project manager.
The Kentucky Department of Labor is an agency of the Environmental and Public Protection Cabinet.
