Contact:  Aaron Keatley 800-926-8111

ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. (March 08, 2007) – AGC Automotive Americas has been accepted as a Master member of KY EXCEL, the environmental leadership program of the Kentucky Department for Environmental Protection (DEP).

Master membership is the highest level of the program.  To attain it, AGC Automotive Americas had to demonstrate comprehensive environmental management planning, submit to an independent third-party assessment of compliance and commit to and report on voluntary projects that benefit Kentucky’s environment.

“KY EXCEL was established to recognize the positive efforts of Kentucky’s corporate and private citizens who enhance Kentucky’s environment,” said Aaron Keatley, director of the Division of Compliance Assistance in DEP.  “AGC Automotive Americas’ commitment to voluntarily reduce its environmental impacts above and beyond regulatory standards illustrates the importance this company places on its neighbors and our environment.”

AGC Automotive Americas committed to perform four voluntary environmental projects over the next year as part of its KY EXCEL membership.  The facility volunteered to share its environmental expertise by mentoring another company to improve its environmental performance.  AGC Automotive Americas committed to reduce its hazardous waste generation by 3 percent.  The facility also agreed to reduce the amount of waste it currently sends to the landfill by 10 percent and committed to eliminate liquid mercury waste at the facility.

AGC Automotive Americas is a manufacturer and assembler of automotive safety glass.  The facility employs more than 650 associates.  Each year, AGC Automotive Americas supplies more than 16 million automobile windows and windshields to 11 automakers located in four different countries.   These customers include major companies such as Ford, GM, Toyota, Honda, Nissan and Chrysler.  The Hardin County facility is ISO 14001 certified, which means the facility implements an internationally recognized environmental management system designed to ensure that products and services are produced with the lowest possible environmental impact.

KY EXCEL provides multiple membership levels that are open to any individual, organization, community or business that wishes to voluntarily contribute to Kentucky’s environmental excellence.  Learn more by visiting the Web site at www.KYEXCEL.ky.gov or by calling the Kentucky Division of Compliance Assistance at 800-926-8111.
