Leadership Awards Dinner recognizes KY EXCEL members

FRANKFORT, Ky. (Nov. 6, 2006) – How can I become an environmental leader?  If you’ve asked this question or wanted your company or organization to become more involved in improving the environment you will want to attend the 30th Annual Governor’s Conference on the Environment, Nov. 29-30, at the Hyatt Regency Lexington.  The theme is “Environmental Leadership—Shaping Kentucky’s Future.” 

The conference begins at 5 p.m. EST on Nov. 29 with the Secretary’s Reception.  Conference attendees will have the opportunity to converse with Environmental and Public Protection Cabinet (EPPC) staff and view exhibitor booths highlighting KY EXCEL members, EPPC agencies and various vendors.  

A Leadership Awards Dinner will follow at 6:30 p.m.  During the event, Kentucky citizens, corporations and organizations will be honored for their commitments to environmental excellence.  Among the recipients will be each member of KY EXCEL, the program introduced a year ago by Governor Ernie Fletcher to encourage voluntary projects that benefit Kentucky’s environment.  There are currently 38 members participating in KY EXCEL. 

Day 2 begins at 8 a.m., and morning sessions will include discussion of legislative issues for 2007, energy programs and environmental leadership/priorities from EPPC staff perspectives.  Afternoon breakout sessions will deal with natural resources and environmental protection issues, sustainable building practices, environmental management planning, understanding the regulatory process and the importance of becoming a KY EXCEL member. 

Registration for the two-day conference is $150 if paid by Nov. 17, 2006, or $175 after that date.  Registration may be paid at the door.
