FRANKFORT, Ky. (July 3, 2006) – The Kentucky Horse Racing Authority (KHRA) today announced the appointment of Jamie Scott Haydon to administer the Breeders’ Incentive Fund as well as develop and implement programs that promote Kentucky’s horse and tourism industry.

Haydon was most recently sales director for Four Star Sales in Lexington.  He also has been promotions manager for the National Thoroughbred Racing Association and an assistant to the director of marketing and licensing of Breeders’ Cup Ltd.  Haydon is a graduate of the University of Kentucky’s Gatton College of Business and Economics.

“I am honored to join the KHRA and look forward to serving the commonwealth and the horse community,” said Haydon.  “Kentucky has a long-standing tradition as the horse capital of the world, and I look forward to promoting all Kentucky breeds including thoroughbreds, quarter horses, standardbreds and nonrace breeds, both nationally and internationally.”

On Jan. 6, 2004, Governor Ernie Fletcher signed an executive order establishing the KHRA.  In the order, the governor outlined specific responsibilities of the KHRA. One was to recommend tax incentives and other incentive options to ensure the strength and growth of the thoroughbred industry, preserve Kentucky’s horse farms and keep them economically viable and competitive. Another was to develop and implement programs that promote Kentucky’s horse and tourism industry.

“We are pleased to have Jamie Haydon join the KHRA,” said Environmental and Public Protection Cabinet Secretary LaJuana S. Wilcher.  “His extensive equine marketing and promotions experience will be invaluable to the authority as well as the Kentucky horse industry.”

The KHRA is an independent agency of state government charged with the responsibility of regulating the conduct of horse racing and pari-mutuel wagering on horse racing and related activities within the commonwealth of Kentucky. The KHRA is attached to the Environmental and Public Protection Cabinet for administrative purposes.
