EEC Scholarship Program

The Energy and Environment Cabinet (EEC) finds and trains candidates for critical job positions through its scholarship program.

The scholarship program is administered through the Kentucky Water Resources Research Institute at the University of Kentucky and funded by the EEC. The objectives of the program are to:

  • Promote environmental education at the undergraduate and graduate level in the state universities.
  • Assist the state's environmental protection agencies in their effort to hire qualified professional staff.

Each scholarship award covers tuition, room and board, books and fees. Majors should be civil engineering, chemical engineering, mining engineering, biosystems engineering, biology, agriculture, chemistry, geology, environmental science or forestry.

Selected applicants must become full-time students in one of Kentucky’s publicly funded universities. They must also accept employment with the EEC upon completion of degree requirements at a rate of six months for each funded full semester of academic work.

The deadline for submission of completed applications is Feb. 15 of each year.

For more information on the program and how to apply, contact Jim Kipp, assistant director of KWRI, or send your request to:
